Principal's MessageMr. Cheng Ying Kai Aspirations and Mission I believe that every student is teachable, regardless of their learning abilities; there is always a way to help them learn better. I believe that education can help individuals discern right from wrong, and seek the truth. I aim to continue the mission of Maryknoll Secondary School in nurturing students with the values of "Benevolence and Diligence." This includes developing students' potential, fostering their critical thinking and creativity, mastering knowledge and applying technology, establishing correct values, and maintaining a positive attitude, while dedicating themselves to serving others. I also believe that our school should be rooted in Catholic education, spreading the Gospel of Christ and bearing witness to His teachings. We uphold core values such as the pursuit of truth, adherence to justice, practice of love, appreciation of life, and strengthening family bonds, guiding students to become "Grateful and Generous, Resilient and Responsible, Loving God and Others."
Tradition and Strengths Founded in 1966, Maryknoll Secondary School has always adhered to the tradition of educating different kinds of students, nurturing their potential, and helping them establish correct values and a positive outlook on life. Our school has consistently focused on serving the community, with priests always reminding us that our goal is not to teach the best students but to care for those who especially need our care and support. This is our excellent tradition and the reputation we have built over the years. We have always taken care of our community, and this commitment continues in our new surroundings at On Tai and On Sau. Maryknoll Secondary School emphasizes care and values-added. Our clear positioning is one of our strengths. Not to be served, but to serve Finally, as a Catholic educator, promoting education and evangelization in a Catholic school is a mission I embrace. I am not afraid of change, as I see it as a pathway to better outcomes. I also appreciate the culture of passing down knowledge within our school community, from Father Trube and Father Peyton to the two former principals and now to myself. I will carry this responsibility with gratitude. This process of inheritance is about continuing the wisdom of those before us, and I am thankful to be part of it, bearing the mission of promoting education and evangelization. "Not to be served, but to serve," I will lead the school with a servant leadership mindset, guiding us towards our goals and vision, ensuring that our school exudes vitality and energy. |
Our school boasts a high-quality teaching staff, with over half holding master's degrees and nearly all teachers having bachelor's degrees. All teachers of Chinese and English subjects have met the language proficiency requirements. More than 60% of our teachers have over ten years of teaching experiences. Some teachers even serve as consultants for the Education Bureau's Curriculum Development Institute and the Examination Authority. This builds a solid foundation for our school.
We have also established a "Teacher Professional Development Team" to assist newly hired teachers adapting to their new environment and becoming engaged in their roles. The school has implemented a mentoring program, pairing experienced colleagues with new teachers to provide appropriate support and guidance.
We prioritize the professional development of our staff and encourage them to participate in training programs. Various themed seminars, training days, workshops, teacher development days, and adventurous activities are organized to cultivate a high-quality teaching team and strengthen the bonding among colleagues. The school is committed to promoting a culture of classroom observation, encouraging peer observations, cross-subject observations, and open classes to enhance professional exchanges.
Teacher Professional QualificationsTeachers of core subjects such as Chinese and English have received specialized training and meet the language proficiency requirements. |
